A plebiscite is …

A chance for voters to give their opinion about an important issue. The issue for this plebiscite: do voters in each community want their municipal government to be able to sell municipal lands, or not.

Municipal Lands Plebiscite

On Monday May 9, voters in all Nunavut municipalities will vote on the following question: “Do you want the Municipality of (hamlet or city name) to be able to sell Municipal Lands?” YES or NO

The result of the votes are binding BUT the result in one municipality will affect only that municipality.

Community and Government Services is responsible for providing information on the land sale issue.

Voting criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older on Plebiscite Day
  • Canadian citizen
  • Resident in Nunavut for the past 12 months
  • Resident in the Municipality
